First and foremost, Kirkhaven is a place where people live. Located in the Park Avenue and Alexander Street community in Rochester, NY, our five-story facility takes a “neighborhood” approach to residential living and senior care ‒ with an emphasis on compassion and community.
By embracing a person-centered philosophy, we’re able to provide compassionate, individualized skilled nursing care for seniors and chronically ill adults. Kirkhaven also offers specialized dementia care and hospice services. Residents and family members can have peace of mind knowing that their loved one’s complex needs are being met with personalized care 24/7.

Kirkhaven offers private and semi-private rooms, each furnished with a bed, dresser, nightstand, chair, overbed table, curio shelving, closet, and half bath. Residents are encouraged to decorate their space with personal items from home. Family photographs, books, and other familiar objects will help make their new space feel like home.

Skilled Nursing Care

Our team of professional nurses, physicians, therapists, and caregivers understands the challenges that individuals can face as they age. At Kirkhaven, our mission is to ensure every resident’s life is as rich and rewarding as possible. We provide high-quality senior care and offer a restorative nursing program with physical, occupational, and speech therapy as needed to help maintain function and quality of life.

Skilled nursing and geriatric care is available around-the-clock, and residents are cared for by the same team of nurses and aides. Social workers are here to guide your family, beginning at admission and orientation and throughout your stay. They can assess a resident’s emotional health and address any family concerns as part of the care team. This helps to create close relationships between staff and residents. Residents appreciate the stability and familiarity, and our staff enjoys getting to know the personal preferences and needs of every resident.

On-site medical services and telemedicine appointments are available for the care and convenience of residents. These include prescription drugs, routine dental care, podiatry services, psychiatric consultations, vision and hearing care maintenance, as well as lab and X-ray services. Medical equipment and supplies, as prescribed by the primary physician, are also provided.

Specialized Dementia Care

Kirkhaven’s Memory Care Center is thoughtfully designed to support individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, chronic dementia, and memory loss. To keep residents with dementia safe and comfortable, we provide an increased level of security and specialized assistance with daily activities. Residents can reconnect with family, friends, memories and interests in a supportive, warm, home-like setting.

The staff in Kirkhaven’s Memory Care Center are uniquely trained in specialized dementia therapies and are solely dedicated to serving residents with these special needs to help them continue to live a fulfilled life with dignity. Individualized care plans are designed to maintain functions and reduce anxiety, confusion, and agitation. Daily activities focus on abilities and social interaction in a calm atmosphere that is supported by structure, routines, and familiarity.

Hospice Services

At Kirkhaven, we value the end-of-life experience and provide compassionate care to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the resident. Our person-centered approach takes the resident’s wishes into account, and our goal is to continue providing care with a focus on optimizing comfort and reducing anxiety and stress while maximizing quality of life.

Our pastoral staff is on hand to offer emotional and spiritual support to residents and family members. Hospice service at Kirkhaven is offered in partnership with Lifetime Care Hospice, a program of Rochester Regional Health.

Our professional staff can step in to provide the care needed so you can have time to focus on something other than caregiving. Whether you choose to eat with friends in our dining room or privately in your own room, Kirkhaven’s commitment to quality is evident in the delicious choices you have in selecting your meals. Our licensed dietician will work with you on a nourishing food plan that supports your medical needs. Our chefs will prepare your meals with fresh ingredients, keeping your preferences in mind.

Kirkhaven’s courteous staff ensures that each meal is a pleasant experience. Three meals are provided daily, and snacks are available. The open kitchen concept means that you can eat whenever you would like, and the dining room is always open. Visitors are always welcome to join you for meals, whether you dine in your room or the dining room.

Life Enrichment Wellness Programming

Creating a diverse and stimulating environment for our residents is vital to enhancing their health and well-being. It is well-known that participating in recreational activities helps improve physical well-being, emotional health, and cognitive functioning. Having fun and making social connections lowers stress and improves quality of life. The Life Enrichment Team at Kirkhaven develops daily activities and programs with a person-centered approach for the residents at Kirkhaven to participate in and enjoy.

There is something interesting to do every day at Kirkhaven. Whether it is an evening of musical entertainment, an exercise class, or creative activity in the afternoon, you will find a variety of activities to participate in. Engage with friends in a game of cards, table bowling, or other activity in the second floor Game Room. We have plenty of on-site materials so you can enjoy your hobbies, such as reading, puzzles, bird watching, crafts, etc.

The Rochester Public Library brings in a selection of books every month. Specific titles can be requested through the library system. A computer is available so you can email, surf the web, watch a video, or play a game. Activity Carts stocked with books, crafts, puzzles, and games are also located on each floor in the dining room and is accessible throughout the day for residents to use and share.

Pastoral Care

Founded in 1984 by the Rochester Presbyterian Home, Kirkhaven is a welcoming place for residents and guests of all faiths. An interdenominational service is offered weekly and clergy are welcome to visit and minister to the faithful. Our staff chaplain provides support to residents and families during challenging times and conducts a weekly service. The James DeVoe Chapel serves as a place for quiet prayer, family visitation, Bible study, and weekly service.

Housekeeping Associate (Full-Time Days)
Seeking a full-time housekeeper for days and every other weekend to join our dedicated and professional housekeeping staff. This position is responsible for maintaining clean spaces in resident rooms, common spaces, and offices. Duties include emptying waste baskets and replacing plastic liners; cleaning bed frames, windows, mirrors, sinks, urinals, and toilets; carpeting/mopping floors; replacing supplies as needed; maintaining residents’ personal environments by making beds, straightening up belongings, picking up, and putting away clean laundry; assisting residents who want to clean their own space; stocking housekeeping cart; reporting needs for more intense cleaning or maintenance; using chemical cleaners according to proper usage and dilution ratio, and other similar duties to meet sanitation requirements. Security and Maintenance Assistant (Part Time/Night Shift)
Seeking a part-time security/maintenance assistant for the night shift (11 PM to 7 AM). Schedule is Monday and Friday for Week 1 and then Saturday and Sunday for Week 2. Position provides for the safety of residents and staff and maintenance projects as needed. Job duties include making routine rounds of the building and grounds; securing offices and storage areas; investigating missing property and assisting with theft prevention; calling 911/police as needed; escorting staff to vehicles upon request; monitoring shift changes; assisting with fire and emergency procedures, drills and training; performing safety inspections and reporting findings; assisting residents and staff with safety issues; removing snow/ice from entrance and walkways; performing emergency maintenance as needed and contacting supervisor for other emergency issues; writing shift reports/theft reports and communicating issues with supervisor; placing trash into compactor; delivering dirty laundry to laundry room; and cleaning elevator floors/vacuum. Must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires NYS Security License or 2-4 years of related experience.
